SCOPE

WISTA-UK is reaching out to the shipping community to make a joint effort to catch the attention of the public to the maritime industry. We can prove to them that our industry is sharing our values, experience, gratitude and knowledge. We want to inspire the younger generation to think about the importance and the opportunities that our industry can offer them; if they take up the challenge, this will mean that our work/mission has been worth it. If we can attract young talented individuals, we can retire in later life knowing that our legacy is safe in their hands and our industry will continue to grow.

We all have a passion for shipping and it is very important that our enthusiasm and wisdom will be passed on to the younger generation of today. Boldly entering an industry which we love and gaining invaluable experience along the way. Once we caught the shipping

WISTA-UK – THE 4OTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
August 24, 2016

During 2014 we wish to celebrate our 40 year anniversary by taking our networking a step further and throw open our doors to the public. We have designed a new Logo incorporating the 40 years in shipping.Wista - 40th Anniversary logo

The shipping industry has changed over the last 40 years:-

  • ISM & ISPS Codes, MLC and many other conventions have been ratified and enforced since 1974.

  • Gadgets like the video cassette have come and gone, replaced by DVDs and Blue Rays; we also have seen the evolution from the simple brick like mobile phones to much smaller smart phones; IPods, computers on every desk, Tablets and I-Pads, Kindle and Kobo, cable TV, Cash Machines dispensers, Fax, Email, PDF and PPS, budget airlines

  • Soon even a new Panama Canal!

In fact, the world in which we live today is quite different from just 40 years ago when 4 British women got together for the first time and started the WISTA-UK association.

As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we would like to ask, if you could name the five most important events, ideas or developments on the past 40 years in our industry, what would those be? It will be an interesting recollection!

WISTA-UK ONE DAY FORUM
August 24, 2016
0

During the London International Shipping Week last year WISTA-UK hosted a One Day Forum held at Portcullis House in the Houses of Parliament, Westminster. This event was considered to be one of the best events of the week, we have now been invited to join the equally prestigious International Festival for Business, being held in Liverpool.

Therefore in 2014, WISTA-UK in partnership with Hugh Baird College in Liverpool is organising a One Day Forum as part of the International Festival for Business 2014.

Our aim is to encourage young people to think about entering the maritime/shipping industry as a career choice. This could be a life changing opportunity for some. For this, we are organising a number of activities, and we would like our members to come forward and volunteer to run some activities and participate in our events.

A MINISTERIAL WELCOME

We have now confirmation from the office of the Rt. Hon. Stephen Hammond, Parliamentary Under Secretary for Transport, of his attendance to officially open our One Day Forum as part of the International Festival of Business in Liverpool, so we encourage you to join our prestigious event.

Mr Hammond has supported WISTA-UK in the past. During ur reception in January 2013 to hand over the Personality of the year Award to WISTA-UK member Katharina Stanzel, the Managing Director of Intertanko at the IMO Headquarters.

ABOUT HUGH BAIRD COLLEGE

The WISTA-UK event will be held at Hugh Baird College in Liverpool, a venue just outside the city centre, but with links to the docks which are both physical and spiritual. The college is looking to become a thought leader on maritime issues, and will hopefully be the provider of a next generation of shipping and port leaders.

Hugh Baird College has a history stretching back to 1891, but it is the future which has everyone talking. The establishment, within the college, of Port Academy Liverpool is hugely significant.

Port Academy Liverpool is a one-stop-shop for courses in port operations and maritime logistics opening in September 2014, and is aimed at school leavers looking to make career choices connected to the maritime industries, or those seeking apprenticeships in logistics. This is the ideal backdrop for our Came by SHIP campaign.
